Why a registry rather than an EMR?

Despite all the marketing and media buzz about EHRs in recent years, data suggests technology that tracks patients with chronic diseases and provides automated reminders to physicians and support staff at the point of care provides the best pathways to achieving outcome improvements. Solo and small practice physicians need systems with this capability that are affordable and simple for them and their staff to use.

Registries are inexpensive, easy to use and provide immediate value in improving care across all patient populations for care needs that are predictable. While EMR systems provide excellent tools for improving administrative office workflow, many lack the capability most critical to improving care.

Best-in-class registries provide physicians the information they need at the point of care to truly affect patient care without disrupting the entire office staff and their productivity. Selecting DocSite to provide tools to support your practice creates a logical pathway to incorporating technology into your office when and how you require it.

How do I get started without interrupting my entire office?

Using DocSite's Registry products means you don't have to eat the entire elephant at once. Take it one bite at a time as you are ready. Focus on a specific segment of your patient panel one at a time. For example, begin using the registry to document your diabetic patients as they come in for care. Once you are comfortable with the tools and see the value they provide in the treatment room, expand your use of the systems to other conditions. DocSite created the applications to enable you to incorporate them into your practice as you feel comfortable.

What is the best way for me to get started with electronic prescribing?

If you have your patients loaded into the Registry, including insurer information, you have a head start. After that, you can obtain the patient's preferred pharmacy information and generate the prescription electronically while the patient is still in the office. Questions about formulary conflicts can be resolved immediately. Also, since the DocSite Rx technology enables access to drug information on line, you or your staff can download information about the prescription while the patient is still in the office. This has been found to improve patient compliance and saves the practice questions later on. Refills and change requests constitute the biggest loss of productivity in the office, and utilizing DocSite Rx to eliminate inefficiencies represents an immediate benefit to you, your staff and your patients.
