DocSite is an award-winning clinical decision support, quality performance management and health information exchange company focused on making better patient care easier for physicians across all specialties. Founded in 2001 by Dr. John Haughton, DocSite is headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Leadership

Paul T. Sheils – Chief Executive Officer & President.

Prior to joining DocSite, Mr. Sheils was founder and managing partner of Silverado Health Partners, a digital health management consulting and investment firm, and CEO of Aetna Health Information Solutions, where he led the eHealth unit that developed Aetna’s pioneering CareEngine®–Powered Personal Digital Health Record, which is revolutionizing the way consumers interact with the U.S. healthcare system. Prior to Aetna, Mr. Sheils was CEO of InterCure, Inc., a medical device company; CEO of MayoClinic.com and Mayo Health Ventures, the venture capital division of The Mayo Foundation; and CEO of Medscape, Inc., one of the country’s most successful digital health companies, now part of WebMD. Prior to his healthcare career, Mr. Sheils was vice president of Dow Jones Interactive Publishing, where he led the team that launched The Wall Street Journal Online, one of the most successful subscription-based publications on the web. Early in his career, Mr. Sheils was a corporate attorney, serving as general counsel of Dow Jones Information Services and as an associate attorney at Patterson, Belknap, Webb & Tyler, a leading law firm in New York City. Mr. Sheils holds a BA from Williams College and a JD from Fordham Law School.

John Haughton, MD – Founder, Chairman & Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Haughton has over twenty years of experience as a clinician and entrepreneur in health care research and clinical workflow and informatics. Work and research initiatives include applications involving care management, evidence-based clinical measures, population analytics, and pay-for-performance. Prior to founding DocSite, Haughton was CMO and senior vice president for product with DxCG, Inc; senior vice president of Clinical Integration and Product Development with ActiveHealth Management, Inc; and vice president of Medical Affairs with the New England-based integrated post-acute provider focusing on inpatient and outpatient geriatric rehabilitation. Dr. Haughton earned his MD and BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan and finished his training at the University of Washington as Chief Resident in his PM&R residency and there pursued an MS in Rehabilitation Medicine Research.

John Randolph Crout, JD, CPA – Chief Financial Officer and General Counsel.

Mr. Crout has over 30 years of experience in a wide range of business areas including defense related government contracting, information technology, telecommunications and healthcare. Mr. Crout is responsible for the day-to-day operations of DocSite. Prior to joining DocSite, Mr. Crout was Chief Financial Officer of Panurgy Corporation as well as a member of the Benefits Advisory Council, and also operations manager of one of Panurgy’s subsidiaries. Prior to Panurgy, Mr. Crout was CFO of Sandbridge Technology, Inc., a 3G telecommunications software development company. Mr. Crout earned his JD from the University of Baltimore School of Law and has been a licensed certified public accountant since 1995.

Bryan Bushick, MD, MBA – Chief Operating Officer.

Dr. Bushick joined DocSite in September 2009 after assisting the company as a business development advisor since early 2008. Prior to joining DocSite, Dr. Bushick assisted a select number of clients within the context of Falcon Health Solutions, LLC, a company that he founded in 2004. From 1999 to 2004, he was a senior executive with CareScience, a pioneer in health information exchange design and deployment, and risk-adjusted outcomes measurement. Dr. Bushick also held roles as system vice president, performance measurement and improvement for Allina Health System, a Minneapolis-based integrated health system; vice president for Medica, a United Healthcare-managed million-member HMO; and an executive with ThinkMed, an early-stage care management and claims analysis software vendor. Dr. Bushick served five years as a senior examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Program, gathering insight regarding business best practices and the ingredients needed for achieving and sustaining high performance. More recently, he was a member of the 2008 Judges’ Panel for Keystone Alliance for Performance Excellence (KAPE), and in 2009 he completed his term as President of the Board of Directors of the Wharton Health Care Management Alumni Association after five years on the Board. Dr. Bushick received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and his MBA from the Wharton School.
